Large and beautiful homes populate these tree-lined streets, wedged between River Road and Little Falls Parkway. There are only 250 homes in the neighborhood, all detached, single-family. The neighborhood his known for its world-famous cherry blossom trees, which gives residents, and some savvy visitors, a much less crowded spectacle each spring than the downtown Tidal Basin.
Somerset's history dates back to 1890, when five government scientists purchased 50 acres (20 ha) parcel of tobacco farmland from the government for the purpose of setting up a residential community. It is now it's own incorporated town, with roughly 400 single family homes in a quite, wooded setting just on the edge of Friendship Heights.
